Infrared Thermal Imaging Inspection Applications

BC Warner Infrared inspections

Infrared technology can be utilized in many applications under the skilled and trained hands of a Level II Dayton Infrared thermal imaging Inspector. Many areas and items are hidden or concealed from sight behind walls, floors, ceilings, paint, etc. Prior to infrared inspections, the only way to identify and locate these hidden issues was through destructive or invasive investigations (tearing out walls, and drywall, etc.). Now we can save you money and time without destroying your home!

Thermography is the use of an infrared imaging and measurement camera to “see” thermal energy emitted from an object. Thermal, or infrared energy, is light that is not visible to the human eye. It’s the part of the electromagnetic spectrum that we perceive as heat. In the infrared world, everything emits heat. Even very cold objects, like ice cubes, emit infrared. The higher the object’s temperature, the greater the IR radiation emitted. Infrared imagery allows us to see what our eyes cannot. True infrared cameras produce images of thermal energy or “heat” radiation. Most objects and components become hot before they fail. This makes the infrared camera an extremely cost-effective and valuable diagnostic tool for many diverse applications. In conjunction with other non-destructive technologies, new applications for infrared thermal imaging continually emerge.

Some of the many residential applications include:

  • Locating missing and disturbed insulation in walls and ceilings
  • Locating vermin and rodent problems
  • Electrical surveys identifying hazards
  • Locating plumbing leaks
  • Locating roof and wall leaks
  • Energy surveys
    • Identifying sources of heat loss
    • Locating draft sources
    • Locating venting and duct issues
    • Identifying thermal windows
  • Locating radiant heat sources and layouts of ceiling heat and radiant floor heating systems
  • Locating basement leaks
  • Locating plumbing drain line blockages
  • Locating dead or dying trees
  • Locating pest and insect activity
  • Identifying and locating structural defects and issues
  • Locating potential sources for mold
  • Identify mechanical malfunctions
